Welcome TO HILO

A TOUR ABOUT TOWN

Check
What to See and Do

The Island of Hawaii, also known as the Big Island, is larger than all the rest of the islands of the Hawaiian archipelago combined. Larger than the states of Rhode Island and Delaware, this island is the most climatically diverse in the state, ranging from desert to arctic environments.

Hiking, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling and other outdoor activities abound. There are fine museums, art galleries, botanical gardens, planetarium, and cultural centers.

Downtown Hilo retains its small-town ambience. A short walk from our home leads to coffee shops, farmers market, supermarkets, many restaurants, galleries and a range of shopping experiences. There is a small bar scene with live entertainment. The Palace Theater, a historical landmark, regularly features acts, bands and movies. Special events promoted by the Downtown Association make downtown Hilo a lively place. The university campus also provides many activities, including a concert season comprised of a variety of performances.
